Albino Corydoras are a peaceful and hardy species of bottom-dwelling catfish known for their pale, almost translucent bodies and distinctive pinkish hues. These social fish are popular in community tanks due to their gentle nature and helpful role in keeping the substrate clean.
General Care
Albino Corydoras thrive in groups of at least six individuals, as they are highly social fish that prefer the company of their own kind. A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended, with soft, sandy substrate to protect their sensitive barbels. These fish prefer a stable pH between 6.5 and 7.5 and a water temperature of 22–26°C (72–79°F). Regular water changes of 20–30% weekly and a gentle filtration system are essential to maintain water quality. They coexist well with other peaceful community fish but should not be housed with aggressive or overly large tankmates.
Food
Albino Corydoras are omnivorous and require a varied diet to stay healthy. Their staple diet should include high-quality sinking pellets or wafers designed for bottom feeders. They also enjoy live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, daphnia, and brine shrimp, along with occasional blanched vegetables like zucchini or cucumber. Feeding should be done once or twice daily, ensuring food reaches the bottom of the tank where they can access it.
Additional Information
Albino Corydoras are known for their playful and active behaviour, often seen darting to the water's surface to take gulps of air, a natural trait of their species. They are excellent scavengers, helping to clean up leftover food, but they should not be relied upon as the sole method of tank maintenance. With their friendly demeanour, ease of care, and beneficial role in community aquariums, Albino Corydoras make a fantastic addition to any well-maintained freshwater tank.
