The Albino Tiger Oscar is a striking variation of the Oscar fish, characterised by its pale body accented with bright orange-red markings. Known for their intelligence and interactive behaviour, they are a favourite among aquarists with spacious aquariums.
General Care
Albino Tiger Oscars require a large, spacious aquarium with ample swimming space and sturdy decorations, such as rocks and driftwood, to mimic their natural environment. As they can grow up to 30 cm (12 inches), they need a tank large enough to accommodate their size and activity levels. Oscars are messy eaters, so a strong filtration system and regular water changes of 20–30% weekly are crucial to maintain water quality. These fish can be territorial, especially as they grow, and are best kept either singly, in bonded pairs, or in very large tanks with compatible tankmates.
Food
Albino Tiger Oscars are carnivorous and thrive on a protein-rich diet. Their staple food can include high-quality pellets formulated for cichlids, supplemented with live or frozen foods such as prawns, bloodworms, brine shrimp, and earthworms. They can also eat occasional treats like small pieces of fish or vegetables such as peas. Feed them 2–3 times daily, ensuring they consume all food within a few minutes to prevent overfeeding and tank pollution.
Additional Information
Albino Tiger Oscars are highly intelligent and can recognise their owners, often interacting during feeding or showing playful behaviours. They can coexist with other large, semi-aggressive fish like other cichlids, plecos, or large catfish, but avoid housing them with much smaller fish, which may be seen as prey. Their bold personalities, vibrant colours, and engaging behaviours make them a standout choice for experienced aquarists with the space and commitment to meet their needs.
